Duas recited before sleeping, during the night and on waking.
اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ
Dua seeking refuge when lying down
O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants.
Sahih Muslim, 2712الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا
Dua of praise when getting into bed
Praise be to Allah, who fed us, gave us drink, met our needs and gave us shelter. How many are those who have no one to feed them and no one to shelter them.
Sahih Muslim, 2715اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ
Dua seeking refuge from punishment at bedtime
O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants.
Sunan Abi Dawud, 5045قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
Reciting Al-Muawwidhat before sleeping
Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas (recite them into your palms, blow into them, and wipe them over your body).
Sahih al-Bukhari, 5017اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْكَ
Dua of submission at bedtime
O Allah, I have submitted myself to You, entrusted my affair to You, turned my face to You, and rested my back on You, hoping for Your reward and fearing Your punishment. There is no refuge and no escape from You except to You. I believe in the Book You sent down and the Prophet You sent.
Sahih al-Bukhari, 247لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ
Dua when waking during the night
There is no god but Allah; He is One, with no partner. Sovereignty is His and praise is His, and He has power over all things. Praise is for Allah, glory is for Allah; there is no god but Allah, Allah is the greatest; there is no power and no strength except through Allah.
Sahih al-Bukhari, 1154آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ
Amanar-Rasulu dua
The Messenger believed in what was sent down to him from his Lord, and so did the believers. All of them believed in Allah, His angels, His books and His messengers; they said, “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they said, “We hear and we obey. We seek Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return.” Allah does not burden any soul with more than it can bear. Whatever good a person earns is for them, and whatever evil they earn is against them. “Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not lay upon us a burden like the one You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with what we have no strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us and have mercy on us. You are our protector, so help us against the disbelieving people.”
Surah Al-Baqarah, 285-286بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Dua before sleeping
O Allah, in Your name I die and I live.
Sahih al-Bukhari, 6324الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا
Dua on waking from sleep
Praise be to Allah, who brings us back to life after causing us to die (through sleep). To Him is the return.
Sahih al-Bukhari, 6324أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ
Dua after a frightening dream
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, from the evil of His servants, from the whisperings of the devils and from their coming near me.
Sunan Abi Dawud, 3893سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
Tasbih before sleeping
Allah is pure and free of all imperfection (33 times), praise be to Allah (33 times), Allah is the greatest (34 times).
