اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ، وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ، فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلَا أَقْدِرُ، وَتَعْلَمُ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ، وَأَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ
- Transliteration
- Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi-ilmika, wa astaqdiruka bi-qudratika, wa as'aluka min fadlikal-azim, fa-innaka taqdiru wa la aqdiru, wa ta'lamu wa la a'lamu, wa anta allamul-ghuyub.
- Meaning
- O Allah! I ask You for what is good through Your knowledge, and I ask for ability through Your power, and I ask of Your great bounty. Indeed, You are able and I am not able, You know and I do not know, and You know the unseen best.
When it is recited
Before an important decision (work, marriage, travel), two rak'ahs of the istikharah prayer are performed, then this dua is recited and the decision is entrusted to Allah.
Virtue
It is reported from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would teach istikharah for all matters just as he would teach a surah of the Quran.
