Duas recited when setting out, while travelling and on returning home.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ مَجْرَاهَا
Dua when boarding a ship
Both its sailing and its anchoring are in the name of Allah.
Surah Hud, 41رَبِّ نَجِّنِي مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ
Dua for deliverance from tyrants
My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people.
Surah Al-Qasas, 21رَبِّ أَنْزِلْنِي مُنْزَلًا مُبَارَكًا
Dua for a blessed place to stay
My Lord, bring me down at a blessed landing place, for You are the best of those who bring (guests) down.
Surah Al-Muminun, 29سَمِعَ سَامِعٌ بِحَمْدِ اللَّهِ
Morning dua on a journey
May a listener bear witness to our praise of Allah and to His good favor upon us. O our Lord, be our companion and increase Your bounty upon us. We seek refuge in Allah from the Fire.
Sahih Muslim, 2718آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ
Dua when returning from a journey
We return, repentant, worshipping, and praising our Lord.
Sahih al-Bukhari, 1797أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ دِينَكَ وَأَمَانَتَكَ
Dua when seeing a traveller off
I entrust to Allah your faith, your trust, and the final outcome of your deeds.
Jami at-Tirmidhi, 3443اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
Dhikr for ascending and descending on a journey
Allah is the greatest: Allah is glorified and pure. “Allahu akbar” is said when going uphill, and “Subhanallah” is said when going downhill.
Sahih al-Bukhari, 2993سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَٰذَا
Dua for travel
Glory be to Allah who has subjected this to us, for we could not have done it ourselves. Indeed, we will return to our Lord.
Surah Az-Zukhruf, 13-14أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
Dua when stopping at a place
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
