- Meaning
- Ash-Shakur means the one who accepts even a servant's small deed and gives him a great reward for it, who appreciates. The small good a person does is not wasted before Allah; He multiplies a deed done with sincerity many times over. This name encourages a servant to persist in good deeds.
In the Quran
«...Indeed, He is Forgiving (Ghafur) and Appreciative (Shakur).»
Surah Fatir, 30Explanation
Great reward for a small deed
The Quran states: "Whoever brings a good deed will have ten times the like thereof" (Al-An'am, 160). Allah's being Ash-Shakur means that He values even a servant's small good and rewards it many times over.
The servant's gratitude
Just as Allah is Ash-Shakur, He also asks gratitude from the servant. Giving thanks for blessings causes them to increase: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you (in blessing)" (Ibrahim, 7).
