- Meaning
- Al-Muntaqim means the one who justly requites the wrongdoers who grow arrogant and persist in sin, punishing those who commit injustice. This retribution comes not from emotion or spite but from absolute justice. Allah grants respite for repentance, but for those who become enemies of the truth and persist in it, His punishment is severe.
In the Quran
«(On) the day We will seize them with the greatest seizure, indeed, We will take retribution (Muntaqim).»
Surah Ad-Dukhan, 16Explanation
Just punishment
Allah's retribution is not oppression but the manifestation of justice. The Quran says: "Indeed, We take retribution (muntaqim) from the guilty" (As-Sajdah, 22). The right of the wronged is not lost; the wrongdoer sooner or later meets their punishment.
Respite and warning
This name is both a warning to the wrongdoer and a comfort to the wronged. Allah is Al-Halim, He grants respite; but those who use that respite to persist in wrongdoing meet His just punishment.
