In the Quran

«...Indeed, He is Praiseworthy (Al-Hamid), Glorious (Al-Majeed).»

Surah Hud, 73

Explanation

  1. Honor and generosity together

Majeed is not majesty alone but generosity joined with majesty. Allah possesses supreme greatness, and alongside that greatness He bestows abundant favor on His servants. The Quran describes Him as Praiseworthy (Al-Hamid) and Glorious (Al-Majeed) (Hud, 73).

  2. A description of the Quran too

The same word is used for the Quran itself: "It is a glorious (majeed) Quran" (Al-Buruj, 21). The honor of Allah's word is itself a manifestation of His being Al-Majeed.
