In the Quran

«"...And sufficient is your Lord as a guide (Hadi) and a helper."»

Surah Al-Furqan, 31

Explanation

  1. Two kinds of guidance

Allah shows the right path to everyone through the Quran and the prophets; but accepting that path and placing faith in one's heart is His special guidance. The Quran states: "Indeed, you cannot guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills" (Al-Qasas, 56).

  2. Asking for guidance

In every prayer we say the supplication "Guide us to the straight path" (Al-Fatihah, 6). This shows that guidance is asked of Allah, and that we are in need of Him at every moment. Guidance is not a one-time event but a continuous blessing.
