Name meaning and origin

Sad comes from the Arabic root səd (happiness, success, fortune) and, as the opposite of nahs (misfortune), carries the meaning of good fortune. This root is also the source of other widespread names such as Said, Saadat and Masud.

Sad ibn Abi Vaqqas was the seventh person to embrace Islam, commanded at the Battle of Qadisiyya, which led to the fall of Sasanian Iran, and founded the city of Kufa. Because the Prophet (PBUH) declared that his prayer had been answered, Sad is one of the ten Companions of Paradise known for both his military ability and his spiritual standing.
