Rukhsana

Rukhsana comes from the root rauxşna (radiant, bright) in ancient Iranian languages; that root became established in Greek sources as Roksane and later took permanent form as Roxana in Latin literature. Though the word sounds similar to the rox (face) element in the name Rukhsar, it has a different origin: Rukhsar expresses the beauty of the face, while Rukhsana expresses light and radiance.

The most famous bearer of this name in history was Roxana, the Bactrian wife of Alexander of Macedon (Alexander the Great); ancient Greek historians celebrated her beauty, and she was the mother of Alexander IV, Alexander's son. In Azerbaijan, Rukhsana is among the rare yet still-used women's names, and there is nothing religiously objectionable in its meaning.
