Name meaning and origin
The name Mirac comes from the Arabic word mi'raj, meaning ascent or ladder, and is the name of the event in Islamic history in which our Prophet (PBUH) was raised to the heavens in a single night. The first stage of this event, the night journey from Mecca to Jerusalem (isra), is clearly described in the first verse of Surat Al-Isra; the ascent to the heavens, however, does not appear as a separate word in the Quranic text, and its details are described in a long hadith narrated by Malik ibn Sasa'a (Bukhari, 3887).
For this reason, Mirac is a name with religious substance that stems not from the Quranic text but from the hadith tradition, and parents usually choose it as a symbol of spiritual growth and devotion to the Prophet. According to official birth registration, the number of boys given this name in Azerbaijan in 2025 corresponded to 49th place nationwide.
