Mira

Mira is linked to the word mirus (astonishing, admirable) in the Latin language; for this very reason, the star known for its varying brightness in the constellation Pisces was also named Mira, meaning astonishing, after it was discovered in 1596. Thanks to this meeting of two layers, the word's meaning and its connection to a celestial body, the name appears appealing in modern culture.

Mira, which has rapidly grown popular in Turkey over the last 10-15 years, has also reached Azerbaijan as a short, internationally sounding modern girl name. It should be noted that the Slavic languages also have a name with the same spelling but a different root, and there it means peace, but the usage in Azerbaijan and Turkey is connected not with that name but with the Latin word mirus.
