Kerem

Kerem is derived from the Arabic root k-r-m and means generosity, magnanimity, open-handedness, and kindness toward others. The adjective karim, from the same root, is also widely used in the sense of generous and honorable, which is why Kerem carries the wish of an open-hearted, open-handed character for its bearer.

The work that immortalized this name in Azerbaijani and Anatolian oral literature is the epic Asli and Kerem: in it, the hero Kerem is remembered as a young man who defies every obstacle for the sake of his love. Because of this popular story, Kerem is a name long loved in Azerbaijan, used both independently and as part of compound names such as Shahkaram.
