Name meaning and origin
Ayman arises from a root connected with the Arabic words yümn (blessing, good fortune) and yəmin (right side) and means right-handed, fortunate, lucky. This root is also related to the word yəmin used to mean an oath and to the country name Yemen.
Ayman ibn Ubayd, the son of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) wet nurse Umm Ayman from her first marriage, was himself a Companion and fell as a martyr while fighting as one of the eight who did not abandon the Prophet at the Battle of Hunayn. This name, which has spread rapidly in Turkey in recent years, is gradually becoming known in Azerbaijan too.
