Aybika

Aybika is a compound name of Turkic origin, formed from the combination of the word ay (moon) and the word bika, which in Old Turkic simply meant woman or lady. According to the definition of the Turkic Language Association, the name as a whole means a woman as beautiful as the moon who has not yet been married.

This form differs from the similarly sounding name Aybuka, because there the root bükə means a noble woman in Old Turkic and, according to some sources, a dragon or powerful being, whereas in Aybika, bikə simply means a young woman. In Azerbaijan both names are used in parallel, and parents choose Aybika with the wish of fresh moonlike beauty for a girl.
