Abdurrahim

Abdurrahim consists of the word abd, meaning servant, and ar-Rahim, one of the beautiful names of God; since the l sound at the end of the name melts away before the r, it is pronounced and written not as Abdulrahim but as Abdurrahim. Unlike Rahman, the word Rahim denotes the continuous manifestation of mercy directed especially toward the believers, and is mentioned alongside Rahman in many verses of the Quran. This structure gives the name both correct linguistic form and deep religious content.

One of the most recognized examples of this structure in history is the poet-general Abdürrəhim Xan-i Xanan, who served at the court of Shah Akbar (1556-1627); he was known both for his military campaigns and for the couplets he wrote in Persian and Hindi. Although Abdurrahim is rarely used as an independent name in Azerbaijan, the clarity of its meaning makes it one of the accessible choices for religious families.
