- Meaning
- An-Nafi means the one who creates every kind of good, benefit, and advantage. No benefit occurs without His permission; health, provision, knowledge, and a medicine's power to heal are all manifestations of His being An-Nafi. It forms a pair with Ad-Darr (the one who can bring harm): true benefit and harm rest solely in Allah's hand.
In the Quran
This Name does not occur directly in this form in the Quran. It appears in the well-known list of 99 Names transmitted in Jami at-Tirmidhi 3507.
Explanation
Benefit comes from Him alone
A person may think of a cause, a medicine, a position, or a friend, as the source of benefit; in truth it is Allah who benefits, and causes are only means. The Quran states: "And if Allah touches you with good, then none can repel His bounty" (Yunus, 107).
