In the Quran

«...Look, then, at the marks of Allah's mercy, how He gives life to the earth after its death! Indeed, He is the One who gives life to the dead (muhyi-l-mawta); He has power over all things.»

Surah Ar-Rum, 50

Explanation

  1. The source of life

Every living being draws its life from Allah. The Quran points to the revival of the dead earth by rain as evidence for the resurrection in the hereafter: "The One who revives the dead earth will revive you likewise" (Ar-Rum, 50; Fussilat, 39).

  2. Evidence for the resurrection

Allah, who gave life for the first time, is equally able to bring life back after death. This name strengthens belief in the hereafter and, in the revival of nature every spring, recalls Allah's power.
