In the Quran

«Should I seek a judge (Hakam) other than Allah? While it is He who has sent down to you the Book explained in detail.»

Surah Al-An'am, 114

Explanation

  1. The final ruling is His

The true resolution of disputes among people lies in Allah's ruling. The Quran states: "Judgment is only for Allah" (Al-An'am, 57). On the Day of Judgment He will render the most just ruling among everyone.

  2. Its relation to Al-Hakim

Hakam (the one who renders judgment) and Hakim (the possessor of wisdom) share the same root and complement each other: Allah's ruling is both final and grounded in boundless wisdom. None of His rulings is void of wisdom.
