- Meaning
- Al-Ghaniyy means the one who needs nothing and no one, absolutely self-sufficient and independent. Everyone needs Him; He needs no one. Our worship adds nothing to Him, and our disobedience harms Him in no way; worship is, in truth, an expression of our own need for Him.
In the Quran
«"O mankind, you are those in need of Allah, while Allah is the Free of need (Ghaniyy), the Praiseworthy (Hamid)."»
Surah Fatir, 15Explanation
Absolute self-sufficiency
All of creation is constantly in need; only Allah needs nothing. The Quran states: "If you disbelieve, then indeed, Allah has no need of you" (Az-Zumar, 7). His richness is inexhaustible and independent.
The wisdom of worship
Allah has no need of our worship; worship meets our own need for Him, purifies our hearts, and raises us up. A person who grasps this name becomes humble and relies on Him alone.
